20% of every sale goes to a cause tied to the illustration style you choose. One decision about what you hang on your wall; another about where it ripples.
A husband-and-wife pastoral team leading a small Tokyo church. What makes their ministry rare: both of them are pastors, and both of their parents were pastors before them. Three generations of pastoral work on both sides of their family, in a country where less than 1% of the population identifies as Christian.
The Japanese church is small, often quiet, and often self-funded. This couple's congregation is no different — they preach in the shadow of a culture that has no particular reason to listen, to a community that shows up anyway.
When you buy a Sumi-e print, you're helping keep the lights on in a century-old lineage.
We're still selecting the cause that Modernist sales will support. The discipline: find something that fits the contemporary, accessible tone the Modernist illustrations carry — modern Christian work in church planting, urban ministry, or design-for-good — and do a small but real amount of good there.
We'll announce the organization once it's confirmed. Until then, Modernist sales from this period will be held in reserve and donated retroactively to the chosen cause when it's named — no money will be lost or delayed by the decision.

Not 20% of profit, not "a portion of proceeds." 20% of the retail price you pay, on every print, before our costs.
Donations are made every three months. Running totals are published here. Each quarter we share which cause received what.
Modernist sales fund the Modernist cause. Sumi-e sales fund the Sumi-e cause. Which print you buy determines where your share goes.
